So why do we get acne, even as adults?
Acne is a condition that can affect anyone, at any age. It can have a severe impact on our confidence, self-esteem and general mental health. There are many contributing factors to acne, we will talk about some of them today and how you can help tackle breakouts effectively.
The environment in which we live, breathe and work is something we need to pay attention to when it comes to our skin. We recommend cleansing your skin as soon as you arrive home, don’t wait for bedtime, get rid of the remnants of your day straight away. In fact, we would advise a double cleanse when you get home.
Think about what your skin is touching
It is easy to forget exactly what our skin touches in a day, but if we think about it, we actually put our skin through quite a lot during the day. Then, we go to bed and sleep on the same pillowcase night after night. Studies suggest the average person changes their bedding once every week, but we would suggest changing your pillowcase a lot more frequently, ideally change them every day. A recent article published by ***** reported that there is a similar number of bacteria on the average pillowcase as on the average toilet seat. So, you can see the importance of keeping your pillowcases fresh.
Consider products that could be inadvertently touching your skin
Shampoo and conditioner, despite them being products for hair, they do come into contact with our skin during the hair washing process. Products that you wouldn’t use on your face, but these products are being washed out and touching our skin elsewhere. At Kate McIver we would suggest, especially those suffering with Bacne, to apply your conditioner once out of the shower, towel dry your hair and rinse off using the over the bath method. This way, the conditioner isn’t running down your back and all over your skin.
These may look beautifully clean and pristine but dig a little deeper and you would be surprised and horrified at how much bacteria they collect. Washing your make up brushes regularly in a little warm soapy water will help eliminate this issue. Don’t forget to let them dry bristle side down to ensure maximum cleanliness.
Exfoliate your skin
We all know the importance of exfoliation, but there is a fine line between good exfoliation and being overzealous, particularly when dealing with breakouts. If the exfoliant is too harsh, it can aggravate the skin. With this in mind, we have a new exfoliator launching soon. Watch this space!!! Increase your fluid intake
We all know drinking plenty of fluid is important for our body’s health, but it also plays a major part in our skin’s health. Hydration is key, drinking green tea can also help our skin. If you don’t like the taste, green tea is also available in supplements.
We would strongly recommend stripping back the number of products you use on your skin. This will help you understand which products your skin likes and is happy with.
Our three core products, Cleansing Balm, Hyaluronic Kakadu & Secret Weapon Limited all play their part in calming and rejuvenating the skin. They have proven to improve our customers skin who have been challenged, see the below reviews.
