So many variables can impact the barrier of your skin, we aim to explain.

So many variables can impact the barrier of your skin, we aim to explain.

You may not know what your skin barrier is, so in short, we thought we would share this blog to help.

Your Skin Barrier is the outermost layer of your skin; it defends your body against the environment while simultaneously protecting your body's water balance.
Symptoms such as dryness, itching, and inflammation are signs of a disturbance in this important barrier.

Because we're wearing masks and facial coverings daily, many of us suffer from "Maskne", which is caused by the friction and heat of wearing a face mask, especially as the temperature and humidity have increased.

Some of the external and internal conditions that can affect your skin barrier are environmental changes that's either too humid or too dry. Those pesky allergens, irritants, and pollutants will always impact your skin. The increased temperatures during summer doesn't help, so getting the correct SPF and limiting sun exposure is key.

What product you are Cleansing your face with makes a massive difference to your skin's barrier; the PH of your Skin needs to be around 5.5—slightly acidic. At this level, it can maintain a sound barrier and, together with natural oils, like the Secret Weapon Serum and moisturisers, function as a protective defence system.

When your ph, acid mantle and the skin barrier is compromised, it can lead to bacteria, which causes so many skin issues, acne, dehydration, wrinkles and leaves your skin exposed to the environment.

TOP TIP - Do not over exfoliate!

Sometimes we have to take steroids for certain skin contra-indications, and unfortunately, they can impact the skin's barrier.

Finally, our levels of stress are not going to help anything skin related. At Kate McIver Skins HQ, knowing how severe stress is for all aspects of our life, we have introduced "walking and talking" meetings first thing in the morning. Our little team start the day outdoors, whatever the weather, we have found this shakes off any stresses from home, and the fresh air seems to charge us up for the day ahead. Minor changes, whether they are at home or work, can make such a difference to your stress levels, and your skin will hopefully benefit.

We have three Skincare solutions that help restore and protect your barrier, our Balm, Secret Weapon Serums and Hyaluronic Kakadu Serum.

Here is some extra information about our products and reviews from customers about how their skin has improved -
